Tannages
“Veg-tan or chrome?” — there is no single answer. Tannage determines temper, whether edges burnish, dye consistency, and how the piece looks after years of use. Veg-tan records every mark of its journey; chrome-tanned holds its original look. Choose based on what you are making, not which name sounds more premium.
Tanned with plant tannins over several weeks. Holds its shape, left unfinished, darkens and gains a sheen with use — scratches become part of the surface.
Tanned with chromium salts, fast and consistent. Soft, supple, with good moisture resistance, and color stays true almost throughout its lifespan — but does not develop a patina like veg-tan leather.
Combines both methods: retains the softness and color stability of chrome tanning, while still developing patina over time from vegetable tanning.
