Alaska leather through the lens
About Alaska
Alaska is a unique vegetable-tanned (veg-tan) cowhide leather line from Conceria La Perla Azzurra (Tuscany, Italy). Its defining feature prized by leathercraft makers worldwide is the white wax finish (frosted look) coating its naturally milled grain surface.
Technical specifications & characteristics:
- Melting wax effect & pull-up: The surface initially features a frosty white wax finish. As you bend, rub, or use the leather, friction and warmth melt the wax layer, revealing the rich, lustrous undertone beneath with striking depth.
- Naturally milled grain: Drum-milled to soften the leather, creating organic wrinkles and pebble grain where every cut of the hide features a unique texture.
- Temper: Medium-soft (supple with a solid hand feel and natural drape, not rigid like firm natural veg-tan).
- Edge finishing: Burnishes smoothly and darkens naturally with Tokonole.
Optimal applications for makers:
- Soft-structured wallets, bifold wallets, key cases, and passport covers with a vintage or rustic aesthetic.
- Slouchy crossbody bags, soft totes, and journal covers that age beautifully over time.
💡 Advantages at Kit Leather: Flexible retail cuts starting from 3 pia (30×30 cm). 100% free splitting on a 40 cm machine to your exact requested thickness. Express 1–2h delivery in Ho Chi Minh City.
