About Barenia / Novonappa
Barenia leather is a double-tanned calfskin line from Tanneries Haas (Alsace, France, 1842).
Technical specifications & characteristics:
- Double-tanning technique (Double Tanned): The hide undergoes initial chrome tanning for suppleness and mechanical strength, followed by retanning with natural vegetable tannins and deep hot-air drum stuffing with oils and greases.
- Self-healing properties: The wax-rich naked grain surface is velvet-smooth. When lightly scratched by a fingernail, simply rub in circles with a fingertip; body heat and internal oils and waxes will rise to fade the mark.
- Patina: Develops a gorgeous, lustrous honey patina over time, gaining character and depth with age.
- Temper: Medium (firm yet supple, substantial in hand, natural rebound).
- Edge finishing: Multi-layer edge paint or hot wax burnishing.
