About Taurillon Clemence
Taurillon Clemence is chrome-tanned cowhide with a large, flat, round pebbled grain, heavy in the hand yet with a soft drape — a leather made for large bags.
Pick up the hide and you will feel its heft draping in your hands rather than standing stiff; the grain pebbles are large and noticeably flatter than fine-pebble leather lines. This exact grain scale dictates what you can make.
Large grain only looks right on broad surfaces, making this the leather for large bags, briefcases, and shoulder bags — where there is plenty of room for dozens of pebbles to spread out. Finished bags hold their body and feel substantial in hand while keeping a relaxed drape, and the raised grain helps conceal daily scratches. Extra-large wallets work too, but skip small goods like cardholders or watch straps — a few isolated pebbles will look out of place.
A few things to consider before buying: because the leather has a soft drape, items that need to hold their shape require reinforcement. Grain scale varies across different areas of the hide, so when joining two panels, cut them close together to match the grain size. As chrome-tanned leather, it keeps its color and will not develop patina over time; also avoid hot creasing on the grain side, as flattened pebbles will not spring back.

French leather in stock leans toward calfskin and goatskin: smaller hides, smooth grain, thin substance — well-suited for small leather goods and work requiring sharp stitching.
Cowhide
Large hides, dense and thick fiber structure, high tensile strength. Suitable for belts, bases, bag straps, and structured goods. The large hide size lets you cut long patterns without piecing.
