About Zermatt
Zermatt is a specialized high-end double-tanned calfskin leather line from the renowned Tanneries Haas (France, established in 1842). In international luxury leathercraft (Hermès, Patek Philippe), Zermatt is known as the "king of lining leathers" thanks to its unmatched protective qualities.
Technical specifications & world-class characteristics:
- Water & sweat resistant: Haas's proprietary tanning formula creates a natural moisture-resistant barrier, preventing sweat from penetrating and darkening or degrading the leather fibers from within.
- Hypoallergenic: Completely safe and gentle for continuous skin contact in hot, humid tropical climates.
- Temper: Supple, smooth and flat grain surface, with tight fibers that do not fray when split thin.
- Edge finishing: Specialized multi-layer edge paint.

French leather in stock leans toward calfskin and goatskin: smaller hides, smooth grain, thin substance — well-suited for small leather goods and work requiring sharp stitching.
Calfskin
Calfskin has finer fibers and is thinner than cowhide, with an even surface and fewer marks. Suitable for small leather goods, wallets, notebook covers, and areas requiring thin folded edges. The trade-off is smaller hides and higher prices.
