About Evercolor
Evercolor leather is chrome-tanned calfskin with a very fine embossed grain and a non-glossy, matte surface—understated, soft and drapey, with color that lasts virtually a lifetime.
The matte surface diffuses light rather than reflecting it, resulting in an even, muted tone with no shifting glare across viewing angles. The fine grain hits the sweet spot: enough to soften minor scuffs without looking busy like larger pebbled grains. The hide is soft and drapes naturally in the hand.
- Suitable for: wallets (folds compactly thanks to its softness, with a quiet, refined look), soft-structure bags, and pieces for clients who prefer a discreet, unpatterned look.
- Shows fingerprints less: the matte finish doesn't show fingerprints as clearly as glossy leather does, both during crafting and in everyday use—making work easier.
- Points to note: being soft, it will not hold its shape on its own and requires lining for boxy structures; the fine grain conceals light scuffs, but deep scratches remain visible; and avoid hot pressing, as pressed areas leave distinctly shiny marks on the matte background.
Because it is chrome-tanned, Evercolor retains its original color and does not develop a patina over time—suitable for those who want a stable, understated piece with no need to tend it.

French leather in stock leans toward calfskin and goatskin: smaller hides, smooth grain, thin substance — well-suited for small leather goods and work requiring sharp stitching.
Calfskin
Calfskin has finer fibers and is thinner than cowhide, with an even surface and fewer marks. Suitable for small leather goods, wallets, notebook covers, and areas requiring thin folded edges. The trade-off is smaller hides and higher prices.
Characteristics & applications
Tannage
- ChromeTanned with chromium salts, fast and consistent. Soft, supple, with good moisture resistance, and color stays true almost throughout its lifespan — but does not develop a patina like veg-tan leather.
Surface characteristics
- Embossed grainThe grain is plate-embossed, making it completely uniform across the entire hide and easy to plan for batch cutting.
- Soft drapeSoft and drapey in hand, hugs the form — in return, you must line it if you want it to hold its shape.
Common uses
- WalletsRequires thin leather that can be folded at the edges while still holding a crease.
- HandbagsRequires large hides, uniform color, and load-bearing strength.
